Message to my (future) self:
Quand t'arrives plus à dessiner, BRICOLE ! Patate...
(Which roughly translates as "When you can't draw, craft! You idiot...")

I often have some sort of creative block about drawing/painting, and every time it makes me feel down.

Today I've discovered for the 3rd time that when I have such a block, playing with cardboard, wood, fabric, metal, etc. was a good way to cure it. At least, I don't feel down anymore.
Even if I don't make anything great, making something tangible always make me feel better.

And that's the 3rd time I discover that because every time I forgot about it. Stupid me. I hope that if I put it on a journal, I will read that again in the future, and remember.
We'll see!

Also, Happy New Year guys :)

A video by a comic artist who draws without making drafts or any kind of preview (only a grid to help him make the panel borders).

One of the DD today really embodies what bothers me about the jewelry gallery: Skeleton-cameo-bracelet
It's a pre-made cameo put on what I guess is also a pre-made bracelet.
Boring....

That deviant gallery is full of things much more interesting, probably also based on pre-made items, but assembled in a much more creative way. Whereas the only interest of that bracelet is the cameo which is bought from someone else (not credited).

I value the skills and creativity needed to make an object as much as the final output, so it always annoys me to see those "Look I've attached *one* ready-made bead on a ear-hook: ART! Now BUY!" things. It seems all they want to do is sell, sell and sell.

I know there are people that can make creative things out of pre-made items, but they often seems to be outnumbered by those who can't/don't want.
At least, this is often the impression the "Jewelry" gallery gives me. :/

Ok, enough stupid useless rant for today. Next time we'll see the overuse of food coloring in the Culinary arts gallery and why taxidermy and life-sized realistic baby dolls scares the hell out of me.
Meh :bucktooth:

Stupid trick

1 min read
I recently rediscovered a silly trick I learnt ages ago.
If you make little clockwise circles with one of your feet (that's easier while sitting with your legs crossed), you can't do an counter-clockwise circles with your hand (e.g. drawing a "6" in the air) without your foot switching to counter-clockwise too (or moving radomly)

I've spent 10mn moving my ankle clockwise, and cursing because after doing a "6" with my hand, every time my foot ended doing an counter-clockwise movement, or simply an up-down movement.

Last weekend I did some cleaning at my grand-mother's house (well, former house as she died several years ago).
I dismantled a kind of small hand-made wardrobe that was useless. There were some plastic bottles and old cardboxes inside the "roof" of the wardrobe, to held the structure together (weird, I know).
I was about to throw them away when I noticed that there was a kind of paper on one bottle. I took a closer look. "Message à la mer du temps" (Message to the sea of time) was written on it.
Oh wow.

After a short fight with a cutter to rip open the bottle, I had a letter from 1973 in my hands. (Not so old I know, but what can you expect in a plastic bottle).
It was written by my grand-mother, for an unknown reader, in an unknown time. There wasn't anything that fascinating on it (it shortly told about her name, age and occupation, and also about her mother, her son and daughter, and a few things about the surrounding seaside etc. ) but it was really nice to have this message in my hands.

I love the idea of not only writing this for an unknown reader (after all, that's what all writers do), but also hiding it in a weird place, where it could have stayed much longer, where it could also have never been found.
