Dragons door by mossy-tree Dragons door by mossy-tree
A4. India ink (linework & grey) and pentel brush-pen (lines of woodgrain). Several hours over a week.

My 1st attempt at including animals in knotwork.
Not sure that the hinges look like hinges. Oh well...

Hi I like that design a lot I was thinking to use it to turn into a 3d mesh for a free Mod for a game if you are ok with that .

Wow, this is fantastic. It looks like a photo.
You'd love the Viking Ship museum here in Oslo.

And yep, if I ever go to Norway, I'll probably want to see every place where there's some ancient knotworks: museums, stave churchs and more :D

I have a friend here in Norway, Truls Grønvold, who makes, among other things, Viking jewelry. I think you might like his stuff: [link]
Cheers! :)

My favourite part of this design are the dragons.
I also have noticed with your other art (especially the celtic pin one) that the knot-work flows really nicely, and it shows piece of art too!

goodness, this is intricate. I've never been able to do knotwork without tracing from a book of Celtic designs my mum has...

I guess it takes practice and patience... and luck :D I made a lot of drafts before that, and sometimes the "correct" knots seemed to appear under my pencil, without me really thinking about it.

(I have two books about celtic knotworks, one which explains how to create them, the other one that just shows already-made patterns. That second one is useless for creating patterns - but it was a present. I hope your mum has the 1st kind of books ^^' )

:D Yeah, gotta have the right door frame for starters and then the time to make it. :giggle: Still cool though. :woohoo:

Very cool, although I would love to see some colour or shading on the rest of the knotwork. Would set it off a treat methinks! :earth:

And yes, it looks a bit not finished because of the white parts, but I was afraid they would stand out less if I shaded them. I should have thought this in colors from the start, then maybe I could have shaded everything without making the knots less visible.

Wow! This is awesome! It shows that pure celtic knotwork can be interesting and organic, too. One of the greatest knotworks I have recently seen!

Thank you very much :)

I'm trying to do knotworks that are a little less celtic, and closer to the scandinavian style, but every time my mind goes back to the very regular celtic patterns instead of something more dynamic. Darn. :D

Oh wow, it makes me dizzy just looking at it - you must have put so much work into the knots! I can't even tell where you began! very impressive!

funny? how so? Do you have to sit back and make sure you don't get too dizzy? ^^'

Maybe I just overuse the word "funny" ^^ But yeah, I'm having fun drawing curved lines, then finding how to connect them in an interesting pattern etc. In the end, I'm not dizzy, just tired. That's better than a sleeping pill :D

I can imagine. O.o maybe I should try doing some sort of meticulous handwork to get to sleep. That might be nice, all things considered. Again, very cool. :) It came out wonderfully, especially as you were designing it as you went. ^_^

Yes, the hinges are a tad difficult to identify, but the door handles are rather obvious. :)

That's significantly better than my meager attempts at zoomorphs thus far - keep it up!

Thanks! Maybe I should have made the "hinges" darker like old iron, but I was afraid to mess up the hold image ^^'
You have an interesting knotwork gallery - even if the animals seems to be hidden well =p

I definitely know the feeling of not wanting to rework an entire piece. :)

Thanks! It would probably help in doing zoomorphs if I actually planned out designs, instead of just doodling. *sheepish grin*

Pretty great job for your first attempt including animals! The grain in the door panel sets off the knotwork beautifully. Great job...are you going to do a color version??
